4 Reasons to Evaluate Atherosclerosis at iHeart

Suspected (or known) atherosclerotic disease? Here are 4 reasons to call iHeart.

1. Early Identification of Related Disease.

Patients with atherosclerosis are at high risk for related conditions. That means, if you’ve had stroke or heart disease, you’re also at risk for PAD (peripheral artery disease) elsewhere in the body. If you have PAD, you’re also at risk for heart attack and stroke. Or, to put it more clinically, the systemic nature of atherosclerosis suggests that patients with one clinical manifestation of the disease are predisposed to the development of ischemic events in other arterial circulations.” (source)

2.  Free ABI Screening.

iHeart will gladly conduct the ABI screening test for free in patients with risk factors for PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease). The results can help your primary care provider advise you on an aggressive combination of diet, exercise, medicines, and other lifestyle interventions which may halt or even reverse the disease. 3. Scheduled Outpatient Procedures.

Proactively restore flow and reduce emergency situations, with scheduled outpatient procedures at iHeart. Aggressive medical interventions for people with PAD can substantially improve their morbidity and survival. (source)

4. Improve Mobility.

It’s easier to get around without pain! Restored peripheral blood flow can reduce or eliminate ischemic pain, avoiding major surgeries like vascular bypass or amputation.

Over 20% of Age 70+ Patients Have PAD

Many seniors with NO known atherosclerotic disease should be evaluated at iHeart. Here’s why…

  1. High prevalence of silent disease in seniors. More than 1 in 5 people older than age 70 have PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease). Fewer than half of the patients with PAD know they have a problem.  Source:Peripheral Arterial Disease” (Circulation. 2005;111:1567)
  2. Free ABI screening. iHeart will gladly conduct the ABI screening test for free in patients with risk factors for PAD. The results can help your primary care provider advise you on an aggressive combination of diet, exercise, medicines, and other lifestyle interventions which may avoid, halt, or even reverse the disease. 3. No-Radiation, No-Gadolinium. When selecting patients for endovascular intervention, iHeart MRA is the Gold-Standard alternative to gadolinium-enhanced MRA and radioactive CT scans.
  4. Scheduled Outpatient Procedures – Proactive identification of individuals with PAD and aggressive medical interventions can substantially improve their morbidity and survival against ischemic events. Register today for FREE PAD screening!

If you’re age 50+ and live in North Texas, register now to qualify for free PAD screening!

WHY:

PAD is a common form of cardiovascular disease that often begins with pain in the feet/legs when walking, and can be a warning sign of high risk for conditions such as heart attack and stroke. PAD is often not noticed until quite advanced, but can be reversed if found and treated early enough.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Your online registration lets us know your risk factors and how to reach you for scheduling and followup.

For patients at risk for peripheral vascular disease, iHeart will contact you to schedule a free PAD screening appointment. During your appointment, we will conduct painless ABI (ankle-brachial index) screening tests for PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease). All results are reviewed by an iHeart physician.

Due to the volume of requests for free services, we will contact you as soon as possible regarding your free PAD screening appointment request. This typically takes 1 to 2 business days.

REQUEST YOUR FREE SCREENING APPOINTMENT:

No-Gadolinium MRA Demonstrates Renal Artery Stenosis

This iHeart iScan was taken with no radiation and no gadolinium, in a patient with renal insufficiency.

This iScan demonstrates severe and diffuse disease of the proximal right renal artery. Findings also include infrarenal disease of the aorta to the iliac bifurcation, including localized dilation of the aorta distal to the right renal artery.

MRA is a powerful tool to monitor patients with aneurysms or dissection (connective tissue disorders). iHeart can demonstrate the thoracic and abdominal aorta during a single brief appointment.

If you diagnose or treat vascular disease in patients with diabetes and/or renal insufficiency, iHeart can image such patients with kidney-friendly, No-Gadolinium MRA.

No-Gadolinium MRA Demonstrates PAD Throughout the Legs

This iScan was taken with no radiation and no gadolinium, in a patient with renal disease.

This iHeart patient presented with possible claudication and was examined to determine if vascular anatomy is amenable to intervention. The iScan demonstrates bilateral infrapopliteal occlusive disease, or PAD (peripheral artery disease) in both legs. Dark spots in an otherwise bright artery indicate the presence of disease (blockage).

If you diagnose or treat vascular disease in patients with diabetes and/or renal insufficiency, iHeart can image such patients (as shown below) with no gadolinium and no radiation.

Significant focal disease involving the proximal femoral artery and distal right femoral/popliteal artery, and significant disease involving the distal left femoral/ popliteal artery.

No-Gadolinium Pedal MRA Reveals Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

This iHeart pedal MRA was taken with no radiation, in a patient with high lipids and high blood pressure, but no previous diagnosis of atherosclerotic disease or cardiac interventions. This iScan shows that the anterior tibial artery and dorsalis pedia artery are both occluded above the foot.

The posterior tibial artery is patent and forms the plantar arch which is intact. Four digital arteries are visualized arising from the plantar arcuate artery. The peroneal artery is just visible at the level of the ankle mortise.

If you diagnose or treat peripheral artery disease (PAD) in patients with diabetes and/or renal insufficiency, iHeart can image these patients (as shown below) with no gadolinium and no radiation.

Lower-extremity PAD and Renal Arterial Stenosis: MR-based Diagnostic Methods

  • MR angiography of the extremities is useful to diagnose anatomic location and degree of stenosis of PAD.
  • MR angiography of the extremities is useful in selecting patients with lower-extremity PAD as candidates for endovascular intervention.
  • MR angiography of the extremities may be considered to select patients with lower-extremity PAD as candidates for surgical bypass and to select the sites of surgical anastomosis.
  •  MR angiography of the extremities may be considered for postrevascularization (endovascular and surgical bypass) surveillance in patients with lower-extremity PAD.
  •  Noninvasive imaging modalities, including MR angiography, may be used in advance of invasive imaging to develop an individualized diagnostic strategic plan, including assistance in selection of access sites, identification of significant lesions, and determination of the need for invasive evaluation.
  • MR angiography is recommended as a screening test to establish the diagnosis of RAS (renal arterial stenosis).

iHeart provides all of the above diagnostic resources for physicians seeking to confirm or treat Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) or Renal Arterial Stenosis (RAS). In cases of renal insufficiency, our protocols for these indications are also available with proprietary, gadolinium-free MRA which deliver resolution equal to MRA with gadolinium contrast.
