Lorenzo Menicanti, M.D., FECTS

Dr. Lorenzo Menicanti is Chief of Cardiac Surgery at San Donato Hospital in Milan, Italy.  He has held this position since 1990.  His experience includes congenital and acquired heart diseases.  Since 1989, Dr. Menicanti has held the position of Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Milan in Italy.  He also served as a Visiting Professor at University of Cairo, Egypt in 1993, University of Damascus, Syria in 1996, and University of Beijing, China in 2000.

Dr. Menicanti is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery and is a Fellow of the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. The majority of his activity is devoted to ischemic heart diseases particularly to the complications of acute myocardial infarction; mitral insufficiency, ventricular defects, and dilation of the left ventricle.  Dr. Menicanti has performed over 2,300 surgical procedures at San Donato Hospital, which is the largest in Italy.

Dr. Menicanti graduated from the Catholic University School of Medicine of Rome Italy in 1975.  He completed his thesis on “Haemolysis in patients with mechanical heart valves”.  Dr. Menicanti has held the positions of Assistant in General Surgery at the Catholic University in Rome from 1975-1976, Assistant in Cardiovascular and Pediatric Surgery, at General Hospital in Bergamo, Italy from 1976-1977, Assistant in Pediatric Surgery Section of Cardiovascular Surgery at the General Hospital in Vincenza, Italy from 1977-1988, and consultant of Cardiac Surgery at San Donato Hospital in Milan.
